YOUTH GROUP

Something beautiful is happening in the Youth Ministry at St. Mark Parish.

What began with just three or four teens gathering for Youth Group has grown into a vibrant community of middle and high school students eager to deepen their faith, build friendships, and find their place in the Church.

At the same time, our Confirmation program has grown significantly—from about 25 students in each year of the program to nearly 50 students annually, with nearly 100 teens participating across the two-year journey. First- and second-year candidates gather on Sundays, typically once a month, with additional sessions during months that include retreats, service opportunities, or special events. Their formation begins before 10:00 a.m. Sunday Mass, where they come together as a group before joining their families in celebrating Mass.

For Lara Brosmer, Director of Youth Formation, the growth is encouraging—but it's not what excites her most.
That vision shapes every part of the ministry. Whether attending Youth Day, serving the parish and the community, participating in summer events like Called to Greatness, or gathering for retreats, Adoration, and conversations over dinner with Father Albert, young people are discovering that faith isn't simply something to learn—it's something to live. This mission is also supported by the pastoral leadership of Father Albert, who encourages opportunities for young people to encounter Christ, ask questions, and build a deeper connection with the Church.

Lara believes every teen's faith journey is unique. That's why she begins with questions instead of assumptions.
The impact is easy to see. Teens who once barely knew each other have built lasting friendships. Shy students now participate in small groups, ask thoughtful questions, volunteer after Mass, help with parish events, and choose to sit together during Mass because they've found a true sense of community.

Perhaps the most meaningful moment comes on Confirmation day.
Looking ahead, Lara hopes today's Confirmation candidates become tomorrow's leaders.
The ministry is already seeing this vision come to life through a team of adult volunteers and peer ministers—high school students who have completed Confirmation and return to help guide and support younger students in their faith journey.

That's what Youth Ministry at St. Mark is all about. Not simply preparing young people for a sacrament, but helping them become lifelong disciples of Christ, supported by a community that walks with them every step of the way.

As another ministry year begins, Youth Group resumes on September 1, and Confirmation begins on September 27, welcoming both new and returning students for another year of growing in faith, friendship, and service.
