The Loaves & Fishes mural at the Garfield side of the rectory brings the Gospel story of Jesus feeding the multitude into the heart of our parish community. Inspired by the Gospel account from John (6:1-15), the mural reflects Christ’s call to trust that He can transform our humble gifts into abundance and care for those in need. Its vibrant, contemporary design, based on a modern Byzantine icon connects sacred art with the life and mission of our parish.
The mural is especially meaningful because it reflects the work of our Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry, where 60 volunteers live out this spirit of generosity each week, welcoming our neighbors with dignity and compassion.
The mural was commissioned by Bishop Matthew Elshoff on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the Saint Mark Food Pantry on October 1st, 2025
Created in March 2026, the Loaves & Fishes mural is part of an ongoing collaboration between Saint Mark and Los Angeles artist Presa Hall.
Hall’s vibrant and expressive style brings the Gospel story to life, creating a meaningful connection between faith, community, and the mission of our Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry.
We are grateful to Presa for helping bring this message of generosity and compassion to our parish through her art.
